Excitement builds as the new season begins in Killarney
No sooner has the 2013 season ended when the 2014 starts to appear on the horizon as the Irish Tarmac Historic Championship is about to get under way. Saturday the 7th December is the date as a new era kicks off with sponsorship from Clonakilty Blackpudding and the Historic Rally of the Lakes has one of its best entries in recent times. Over 120 crews will take part, the vast majority in the modified section, but there are still over thirty entrants for the Historic category.
One of those entered is the 2013 Irish Tarmac Historic Championship winning crew of James O’Mahony and Kerrie Barry who will once again appear in their Volvo. As the Killarney event is the only dedicated Historic rally in Ireland it remains to be seen who else will sign up for the Championship which also includes trips to Galway, the Circuit of Ireland, Rally of the Lakes, Donegal, Ulster, Isle of Man and the Cork 20.
The action begins at 7.30 am before classic stages such as Molls Gap, Ballaghbeama & Kilgobnet are covered and then repeated by 2.45pm. Then the crews will tackle the Coolick stage, first in daylight, and after a service in full night time mode which will surely be a challenge to all crews and bring great excitement and atmosphere to the proceedings around the Killarney area.
Regulations can be downloaded from www.irishtarmac.com and anybody considering registering for the Irish Tarmac Historic Championship can do so by contacting the Championship Manager, Gerard Seaman on +353 87 2204650. Gerard will also be in Killarney at the weekend if anybody wishes to register for the championship pre event.
