The FIA World Motor Sport Council took a decision in mid-September at their meeting in Beijing to approve the eligibility of cars from J2 for the 2015 FIA European Historic Rally Championship. These cars dating from 1986 to 1990 will be part of FIA Category 4 and will include the likes of the Lancia Delta, Sierra Cosworth and BMW M3 among others.
Motor Sport Ireland has permitted the T.R.O.A. who are the promoters of the Clonakilty Blackpudding Irish tarmac Historic Rally Championship to include these exciting cars into the 2015 Historic Championship. These iconic cars will be eligible to compete from January 1st 2015 in time for the second round of the championship the Colm Quinn BMW Galway International Historic Rally. These cars will be eligible to run in the existing appendix K Category of the Championship.
Commenting Ger Seaman, Championship Manager, stated that, “We are delighted and very excited at the possibility of having some of the most iconic rally cars back on the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship stages. Already there are a number of enquiries regarding qualifying cars. We look forward to seeing some of these in the 2015 Galway International Rally”.
